Project: Eternity Divinity: Original Sin 2
Fallout
Fallout 2
Gothic
Gothic 2
Realms of Arkania: Star Trail
Ultima IV
Ultima VII: The Black Gate and Serpent Isle
Ultima Underworld

I could imagine adding Ultima V and VI if I got around to playing them. But then I didn't play Torment yet either.
Ah, so many games to play, so little time.

These are what I consider the greatest RPGs in existence.

In no particular order:

FALLOUT

FALLOUT 2

BALDUR'S GATE 2

PLANESCAPE: TORMENT

GOTHIC

GOTHIC 2

ARCANUM

DEUS EX

STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC 2: THE SITH LORDS

/// I enjoyed Icewind Dale, but alas it is not an RPG at all: a dungeon-crawl, akin to Diablo, so i can't place it in this list.
Some of NWN mods are great (not the OC tho), but it was yet still small an impression to put it in the list.

Off the top of my head. I probably left some better games out. In my defence: I'm senile.

1: Fallout
2: Planescape: Torment
3: Arcanum
4: Fallout 2
5: Realms of Arkania 2: Star Trail
6: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords (despite being an unfinished mess)
7: Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn
8: The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall
9: Dark Sun 2: Wake of the Ravager
10: Total Club Manager 2003 (it's awesome! you can get titles like "Sir" and "Dr." and have girlfriends and wives and kids and shit! it's great!)

Edit: Stair Trail? No, Star Trail.

The Fairy Tale Adventure

Holy fucking shit, there's a blast from the past. One of my favourite Amiga games of all time, and a pretty fucking cool isometric action-adventure (close enough to an RPG, I guess). I don't think I ever managed to achieve anything significant, but the game world was fucking enormous, so I had endless hours of freeform amusement. Way ahead of its time for 1987 too.

Any ever play the sequel?

I also can't help but notice that Ultima Underworld 2 seems to rank higher than the original in quite a few lists, anyone care to elaborate on their preference for the sequel?

I'd ask the same about Star Trail. Why not Blade of Destiny?

(Shadows over Riva had an improved combat system, but was horribly buggy.)

I actually have to name 10 really good RPGs? This may be tricky.

1. Fallout
2. Planescape: Torment
3. Fallout 2
4. Baldur's Gate II (You heard me)
5. Arcanum
6. Geneforge 1
7. Ultima IV
Umm...
Err...

There's a few other games that I really, really, really like, but I wouldn't go ahead and call them RPGs so quickly (Deus Ex, Escape Velocity: Nova, Anachronox). And there's some games I wouldn't mind calling RPGs that I like but I don't think really belong on a top 10 of the genre (Temple of Elemental Evil, Vampire: Bloodlines, Icewind Dale).

Even a bottom 10 would be tricky because, well, I don't bother to play the truly awful games. Now a mediocre 10, that'd be easy.

3) Planescape: Torment
4) Deus Ex
5) Arcanum
6) Fallout 1
7) Bloodlines in the beginning
8) Yoda Stories
9) Don't know.

I don't recall now. All I remember is that I liked the first one, was very impressed by the second one, and hated the third one for bugs and the stupid maze.

Lol, I never got anywhere either, but I remember mapping an enormous map on glued-together letter paper.

As to UUW: I never played the first one. UUWII was actually the first PC game I ever played (on a friends PC, I still had the Amiga back then).

Considering it was a fricking long time ago since I played either of the UW's - I remember enjoying the first one immensly - I remember the first time I met a lurker and how high I jumped. I do however believe I thought the 2nd was better executed - 2nd time around with the engine and all. But then again, maybe the first was the better game... hm. I can't honestly put my finger on it - maybe I just enjoyed the portal thingie?

i'm quite surprised to see so much people mentioning Arcanum. I thought the game was mediocre. Very unbalanced and the dungeons had a very empty feel.
