The races are pretty cool. I have no idea how to save the game tho, I guess u cant XD

I acquired quite a few Orbs in my time. Does the game still have the Orb or did they remove that too?

I used to be pretty good back in the day before they started removing a bunch of fun stuff - placed highly in a few tournaments, at least. Briefly got back into it when they introduced the new race that can only spend 600 turns on each level, but true to type, they quickly removed that as well.

To my recollection, Shift+S to save.

Gooncrawl, but the more consistently lively and organized of late is bcrawl by a fair margin:

Can confirm bcrawl is pretty good. Fork dev has a much healthier dev philosophy and isn't obsessed with turbo balance.

Current DCSS devs are like Sawyer on steroids.

.10 was already a big decline: they removed mountain dorfs for no good reasons.
Even deep dorfs got cut in later versions. One of the few positive changes they made in these years is trimming the dungeon levels.

Why do people do this? What was some of the fun stuff you remember?

Apparently devs are doing this to make the game more 'fun', though they must have some weird sense of what is fun and what isn't. I think over the years they've removed far more fun things than they've added. 0.21 was the last version I played, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that by now they've removed like half the game from that time. Recently I wanted to come back and replay it with Deep Dwarf (my first win in this game), and of course they're not in the game anymore.
