Even if the AoE was larger, there is still a question of defenses. If everyone can cast spells, then some measures would have been developed, ranging from anti-magic trinkets and wards to magic detection spells that would alert every guard and archers on standby when a spell has been casted.

10' radius on Sleep, and it <i>could</i> be widened for 20'.

I didn't specify whree the guards were standing, but I had kind of envisioned them standing together on one side rather than on either side of the gate. *shrug*

If those guards have five hit dice or more total, the whole point is moot anyways.

Actually the point was probably moot in the first place if Sarvis has spent all this time arguing over it.

I hate that about the sleep spell. It's the only spell that becomes completely useless as you get higher levels... even magic missile can help out in a pinch!
