For a MCA take on Ultima, or only limited BioWare Mythic rape?

My gawd, could you imagine MCA's take on The Virtues?

I would openly call for his beheading while ululating and firing an AK47 into the air.

Might be fun, but since all Obsidian's games have been story focused instead of sand box like Ultima, I think they would either have problems doing a game so different from what they usually do or end up making a game without the sandbox exploration of other Ultimas. An while it is true it would probably be better than anything else EA is going to throw at us, it would also be harder to ignore.

The bigger problem is that Fagellone would piss and cum all over the virtue system and the codex retards would lap it all up like the good third rate porn film extras that they are.

I wouldn't say that's entirely case, seeing how great New Vegas was.

Well, I haven't played New Vegas throughout yet, but the little I played before suggested the game's strength was in its storyline, with the various quests forming a cohesive storyline, not a cohesive world like in Ultima. Am I wrong here? I mean, I remember exploring seeming reasonably fun, but seemed dwarfed by the storyline aspect.

I dunno. He mostly deconstructs tropes, which they already did in the later Ultima games after U4. I guess he could take it one step further, but it would hardly be anything new. Still, if there's going to be an Ultima remake, I'd rather Obsidian do it than anyone else at this point.

I would have thought so too. I still have a copy of it which came on a pc mag cd.
That the one that came with Betrayal at Krondor, Wasteland, uh, and a couple of others? Yeah, I kept mine safe just in case a day like this came.

I still have the CGW mag. Was an "All Roleplaying Game" special issue. The games on the CD were Wasteland, U4, M&M 1, Wizardry 6(which did not work. I remember there was a big mess at the CGW forums about this but do not remember the exact explanation) and Betrayal at Krondor. There were also demos of Exile 3: Ruined World and a pretty interesting strategy game called "Fallen heroes" that was apparently inspired by table-top Warhammer. The game was made for DOS but did not run, even under DOS for most people who tried it.

Even if they're doing an Ultima 4 remake, I don't see how the original being available hurts them unless it's literally just the same game but with a price tag

It's a legal thing having to do with copyright laws here. Evidently if you allow a bunch of anonymous people to freely distribute and/or use your copyrighted images, titles, etc. then there is some legal precedent for you losing your copyright or at least being powerless to stop anyone else from making(and possibly selling?) games and such with the copyrighted title.

Or at least some lawyer type tried explaining such to me once. I obviously did not take notes.

Yes, but isn't it a bit too late? I mean, people had been using those tiles and sharing those files for a few years now.

As would I. But it you read what I wrote, that will now never happen. We are now stuck with whatever project Mythic Bioware is doing.

you're thinking of trademark law. you have to actively defend its use.

a publisher can give something away yet still maintain the copyright.

Bizarre. I was always under the impression that once you gave something away for free that was it, you couldn't take it back again.

They can, Sierra did it with Betrayal at Krondor.

add button=awesome and there you go :/

There was also mention of a Facebook Ultima in that disgruntled EA employee blog post.

Oh yeah, and he needed Paul Barnett. You know him as the crazy British dude that appears in random videos at EA to promote his latest bullshittery. We know him as the crazy British dude who we have no idea of how he still has a job. This man was supposed to be the savior of Warhammer’s vision and design. Now all he can do is promote his strange ideas about his little secret project web Ultima game that’s been almost universally criticized by all of us and focus groups. What’s that? You didn”t know Paul loves one of those old Ultima games sooooo much he’s making a literal copy of it for Facebook? Well, the cats outta the bag. Too bad it sucks ass.

Same Paul Barnett who fecked up Legends of Lone Wolf?

Bioware Mythic is not the same team that is Bioware Edmonton. Ray and Greg do however oversee them.

What the fuck is Bioware Mythic? It certainly isn't what the old Mythic was back in the day. Just another abomination perverted by EA.

Since I'm feeling google lazy (as I'm working on something right now) IIRC Bioware Mythic did the Warhammer MMO, and the 2 Ultima Online expansions (which were IIRC very much rooted in true Ultima Lore).

EA fired almost everyone from EA Mythic after Warhammer Online flopped (Which guess what, was caused by EA forcing them to release the game on a early beta stage with half of the features missing). So the few that still had their job got to work on a new Bioware studio called "Bioware Mythic".

I wonder what Mark Jacobs is doing now. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as I did when they fired him. I fucking knew they would too. I told the faggots on the WHAlliance forums that this is what would happen, but they said it would be different this time. Idiots never learn, I guess.

Anyway, Warhammer Online had more problems than a just rushed release. The very foundation of the game was crap, and that's not something you can easily fix with a patch or two. Everything in it was at least two steps back from DAoC. That game was (and still probably is) in the stone age compared to DAoC in terms of design and execution.

it was worse than that. they also had a cataclysmic fuck up in their billing system where people were incorrectly charged multiple times, sometimes in the thousands of dollars. some of those charged had actually not been subscribers for months. people were defaulting on loans and getting their credit ratings fucked, not to mention bank overdrafts. lawsuits and civil suits were discussed, including some good ol Bank vs Consumer and Bank vs EA action.

when it was breaking i tried asking how it would affect the SW mmo on the bioboards (very politely!). naturally it was locked as irrelevant spam.
