Lower animations speed and slow turnrate makes dota actually more demanding reaction and prediction wise. It's same shit as in fighting games where with slow chars you need to read the opponent very fast and predict well since you can't adjust late or react to tricks.

Also you can cancel spell animations in dota baiting people, items actually change gameplay instead of being +x dmg.
