Decline Dodge rolling is fucking stupid and I will refund any game that features it

DS1 rolling mechanic was well implemented and made sense. DS3 is the game that implemented it stupidly.
I prefer dodge steps though.

Barrelroll-punk is here to stay.

Bethesda monopolizing big budget salvage-punk led to this.

I'd pay for a game that's a chrisavellonesque deconstruction and subversion of roll dodging, though

I'd say it's just become over-used now to the point where t's simplicity can no longer hide-away in a corner whilst we "wow" at the world & atmosphere, and feel relief at playing a game with an actual challenge.

Haven't played Elden Ring yet, but games like Horizon Forbidden West are what will kill the style, as they lack so much of the other good stuff which makes dodge-roll tolerable.

I feel like the problem is actually the invincibility frames, not the fact that "dodge" action involves "rolling". But I don't have the time nor the desire to play these dodge-roll games and analyse what exactly makes the combat so boring.

Lol so Bloodborne, where you do a little hop upon dodging to get the same iframes as in souls, is fine in your book?
Honestly who cares.

Anime? Since when? I've seen more live-action shows do that shit than anything animated. Star Trek did it so much that unnecessary combat rolls are practically a meme. If that is an anime trope, they're just trying to (poorly) appeal to western audiences.

Dodge rolls are 100% real and super effective.

They are also historically accurate:

That's not how they dodge roll in Demon's SOuls, Dark Souls and Elden Ring. It's more like a retarded tight forward flip. I hate it too. The roll in Dark Souls II at least had more... gravity. But yeah, far better to keep the character on their feet.

Other aesthetic combat thing that bothers me in those games is how they hold their shields. They don't strap them to their arms like normal people, they hold them in their fists so that any hard hit will shatter the bones in their hand/arm.
