Regarding procedural generation of random cities, I don't know if you are aware of this stuff, but it might be helpful. L-systems Subversion by Introversion Software is based on an L-system random city generator. There's some kick-ass videos and screenshots in the project blog...
  2. How easy would it be for an average programmer....

The story, the game mechanics and the graphics. For example, look at http://www.pyweek.org, a site where the creator of pygame is holding competitions for games written in python in one week. Getting something moving on the screen in 2d is not that hard when you use a high level language...
  3. How easy would it be for an average programmer....

I don't think the engine is the complicated part, even for an average programmer. Using something like rabbyt + pygame/pyglet it could be done quite easily.
  4. For the python programmers here: interested in pyFIFE ?

pyFIFE would kick ass. You could also check out Py++. Some nice advocacy for Py++ can be found here.

Ogre is not a game engine but a rendering engine plus some goodies like skeletal animations.
  9. "Open RPG engine" -- any takers?

@elander_ You can write games entirely in Python using Soya3d, a 3D engine written entirely in Pyrex and Python. Also, there's Delta3D Because Delta is using Open Scene Graph for rendering, I think it's safe to say that you can achieve reasonable amounts of bling. :) And there's also...
  10. "Open RPG engine" -- any takers?

The thing that really drags Panda down is the licence. Because of it mostly, the project failed to attract developers and things move really slow... Plus, for Python developers wanting to do 3D work there are a lot of options.
  11. Site hard to read when images are tuned off

It looks more like another idiotic behavior of the Internet Explorer html rendering engine. You should use Firefox or Opera and stop wasting your time with Internet Explorer crap like Avant or Maxthon. Opera has the kind of features you want right out of the box (is only 4.5 MB).
