  1. Realism and strategy gaming (Battles from the Bulge video)

Bunch of new interface additions. Extra parameters for orders, being able to coordinate actions better with schedules. Some pretty cool gameplay stuff. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1723551
  2. Realism and strategy gaming (Battles from the Bulge video)

This thread is about the upcoming Command Ops: Battles of the Bulge (Ardennes Offensive operational-level wargame - yes, it's WW2, but most of you have never played such a game at this level). First off, please watch this video, as it explains the game design/concepts of the game engine much...
  3. Scourge of War - Gettysburg (American Civil War wargame) AAR

(warning: lots of screenshots) (optional: put up some in-game music to set the mood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jali0Y8kQg) Welcome to Scourge of War - Gettysburg. American Civil War wargame featuring huge maps with up to tens of thousands of men clashing against each other on the...
  4. 'Recruit' and 'Veteran' Modes in Alpha Protocol

Just a clarification: Recruit and Veteran are separate from the game's actual difficulty levels, and Recruit is available from the beginning. Obs PR guy:
  5. Codex Good Old Games Short Story Competition

Well, I took topic #1 a bit further and created a time machine, jumped 5 yrs back in time and created this thread http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showtopic=193 in some fanboy forum in order to sow the seed of Volourn teachings ahead of time, so as to make the hypothetical future society...
  6. HistWar: Les Grognards (huge 500,000 men Napoleonic battles)

Let's get it out of the way first. The game features pretty primitive 3D, blah blah blah. For those interested in an in-depth grand tactical wargame featuring high-level gameplay at the helm of a Napoleonic army, that may not matter. HistWar: Les Grognards is an indie game being made by French...
  7. Turn based Strategy vs TB CRPG markets large discrepancy

The new gameplay additions every new game are really nice. The devs focus on significant interface/gameplay improvements rather than graphical ones in progressing the series. Morale, cohesion are all very important. Terrain is very important. If you hold defensive positions for a long time...
  8. Turn based Strategy vs TB CRPG markets large discrepancy

Those of you skeptical about RTwP wargames should give the Airborne Assault a try (Highway to the Reich, Conquest of the Aegean, soon Battles from the Bulge). I usually prefer turn-based over real-time, especially in a strategy/tactics game. However, I think AA manages to pull off 'simulation'...
  9. Let's Play Battles From The Bulge

The upgrades to the engine/interface sound awesome.
  10. Armchair General reviews Kharkov: Disaster on the Donets.

Just for anyone who cares, game's been updated with a bunch of significant improvements. Also, SSG has announced that they'll be releasing the 3 campaigns from Battles in Italy for free reupdated with the new gameplay engine eventually.
  11. Valkyria Chronicles ships

Valkyria IS a very very good game.
  12. Men of War Enters Closed Multiplayer Beta

Alright, got into the beta thanks to this thread. Netcode is a lot more optimized then Faces of War, which was the main thing I was hoping for.
  13. WW1: La Grande Guerre 14-18 Demo

Neat. I heard about the game being really buggy. Is it playable now?
  14. Matrix sale on. Recommendations?

The Airborne Assault series is easily my favorite series of wargames. Possibly the most realistic from an operational point of view, as well. Highway to the Reich and Conquest of the Aegean are highly highly recommended.
