In Progress X-Piratez! Ironman! No spoilers! Oldschool X-COM Total Conversion with mutant amazon pirates. Death to the star gods!

MOTHER FUCKER. I started writing out the update and then misclicked while checking an alert and it fucking ate the post. At least it was a short one and only half done...

Which CRPG that doesn't use D&D rules has the deepest character building?

Path of Achra has a surprising amount of both depth and variety for what is supposed to be a cofeebreak roguelike. I suppose that's what happens when you make the character building 95% of the gameplay. Rift Wizard and it's sequel are arguably in this category as well. I have to throw my vote...

From Software Elden Ring - From Software's new game with writing by GRRM

This is the difference between appreciating good art and being a graphics whore, and why games from 30 years ago can still look good today.

From Software Elden Ring - From Software's new game with writing by GRRM

Sure (and I'd argue this is true of any game, or you're just in the fucking skinnerbox) but what one person has to do to grow isn't the same as for another. Expecting the guy who has played hundreds of hours of similar games and the guy who has played zero to be at the same place by the end of...

Incline Monster Hunter World - G-rank edition. Now on PC.

Honestly it's pretty awesome how varied and fun all the monsters are to fight in this game, or even the series in general. Even very similar monsters like Rathina/Rathalos or colour swaps of the same monster tend to have some interesting moves unique to them. It's mind boggling people hold up...

Why did Real Time Strategy genre die out?

It's not a single correct way, but a handful of them, and you scout to find out which one the opponent did. Though there have certainly been times when a particular opening for a given matchup was so dominant it wasn't even really necessary, aside from avoiding cheese. Again, you can't alter...

Why did Real Time Strategy genre die out?

This just isn't true. When you watch pros play the good casters can tell when the units will move out, how many and what they will be, minutes before it happens. And they play that way for good reason- varying even slightly (by say a single upgrade happening 30 seconds later or building 2 fewer...

From Software Elden Ring - From Software's new game with writing by GRRM

So the thing that matters most with shields is actually strength and encumbrance; because the amount of stamina lost when taking a hit is determined by the guard boost stat of a shield. Bigger, heavier shield > More guard boost. It's the % of stamina loss that the shield (or weapon, you can...

From Software Elden Ring - From Software's new game with writing by GRRM

Spamming a powerful weapon art is indeed a good plan, there's plenty to choose from. I'm personally also a fan of shield poking with a rapier or spear. Because of the way poise works, being able to consistently hit enemies without giving them a breather tends to trigger staggers more often than...

Starsector - RT 2D indie space goodness

Seriously, just letting the AI control my flagship worked really well for me most of the time. I only feel like I make a major impact as a pilot if I'm using some overpriced frigate to snipe shit and run away.

Why did Real Time Strategy genre die out?

I think a major problem is that the genre never really went anywhere. Aside from AI Wars and Factorio(which were both fucking awesome) pretty much all RTS plays the same way since Dune 2. You gather resources, make buildings that make units, then walk the little men over to the other side and...

In Progress X-Piratez! Ironman! No spoilers! Oldschool X-COM Total Conversion with mutant amazon pirates. Death to the star gods!

In my defense, when I replied to that it was 2AM and I'd forgotten I'd need to dick around to install an update. I got the update downloaded and the save filed backed up, gotta remember how the install works now.

In Progress Dominions 6 - Rise of the Pantokrator: The New Decline a.k.a ProfessionalThroneSitters MP Match (Ongoing!)

It is impossible to completely avoid combat in Dominions 6: (I mean, technically I could have charmed it so... better rpg than Fallout?)

    SaGa Series Discussion

SaGa Frontier kind of gets to do both in a way; depending on which character you pick, you either get full blown sandbox (Lute, Asellus,) a very structured and linear set of missions (Red, Emelia), or somewhere in between with the other 3. Blue's my personal favourite scenario, but they've got...
